Differentiation in Practice

Differentiation is a high-profile teaching strategy, but its quality and impact are hugely variable. This training programme shows busy teachers how to personalise and differentiate learning effectively, in ways that raise standards and close the achievement gap – without placing unrealistic demands on planning time. The course is written in a bitesize way to help you target the aspects of differentiation and challenge how you decide what needs to focus on in your school.

AIMS AND OUTCOMES

  • Help teachers and school leaders diagnose areas for improvement in differentiation practice.

  • Radically improve teaching by providing strategies to help teachers respond to learning as it unfolds in the classroom.

  • Increase teacher confidence and reduce workload with tools to plan effectively for differentiation prior to a lesson.

  • Support senior and middle leaders to lead professional learning around differentiation and challenge.

Advanced Course

Accelerate Progress With Metacognition

Metacognitive and self-regulation skills will increase pupil progress across the school. Research indicates that improving pupils’ metacognitive and self-regulation skills (that is, ‘learning to learn’) helps accelerate their progress, and leads to greater motivation and independence.

How do you embed the development of these skills in your teaching? How do you teach an understanding of how to learn and what to do when learning is not straightforward?

This advanced course is designed for teachers with extensive experience in education and who are looking for an opportunity to extend their ability to accelerate their students’ progress.

"Every teacher is a teacher of English"

No subject is taught in isolation; every time a child is in any class, it is an opportunity to build up on a variety of skills. The issue we have as educators , is that there is a tendency to hyper focus on our subject, and not consider whether we are teaching transferable skills.

This programme is designed to remediate participants' foundational knowledge and skills in order to better prepare them for the classroom. Whether you are fresh out of your NYSC programme or you have an extensive teaching career, the basics of quality teaching should never be ignored.

Learning objectives:

  • Unit 2 - Improving verbal and written communication skills

  • Unit 3 - Confidence in the classroom

  • Unit 4 - Adapting to non-traditional teaching methods and environments

Course Start Date: 29th January 2024

Course Duration: 2 Weeks
